Copernicus Astronomical Memorial of SUST (CAM-SUST) is the only astronomical organization in Shahjalal University of Science and Technology and one of the leading institutions in the Sylhet division. CAM-SUST was founded on 7th July 2012 and officially registered as an organization of SUST on 17th July 2012. Since its establishment, CAM-SUST has been working relentlessly to promote and encourage interest in astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology among the students of schools, colleges, and universities under the supervision of the organization’s trusted advisors.

The motto of CAM-SUST is “Pursuing the infinity.“. The main goal of CAM-SUST is to learn about astronomy and spread knowledge about astronomy. Astronomy is the field of science that has a lot of to explore by the communities in our country.

The history of the universe started with a great explosion –  the Big Bang. Since then billions of years went by. Human beings came and started to be surprised by the world. Curiosity led them to the world of wisdom. The concept of astronomy came when the ancient human looked at the sky and saw the infinite sky sparkling with a gazillion of stars.

Man has desired to explore the vast and mysterious universe, to touch the infinite sky, to feel infinite nothingness from the ancient period. By that time, great scholars like Copernicus, Bruno, Tyco Brahe, Galileo, and Newton came and tried hard to unveil the puzzle of great space.

In this modern era, we have succeeded to extract vast knowledge from the nothingness of the sky. Man has stamped his feet on the rough surface of the Moon. Now we are working to conquer the galaxy. Even our sub-continent has contributed a lot to the field of astronomy. Our continent is proud of having astronomical grandmasters like Aryabhatta, Radha Govinda Chandra. But it is a matter of great regret that in modern time Bangladesh has failed to keep up with the over expanding fields of astronomy. So it is high time to start the development of astronomy in Bangladesh.

Promoting and encouraging interest in astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology throughout the university and in other educational institutions in Bangladesh is what CAM-SUST is all about.
